Nokia ‘HERE’ Maps Now Available For All Android-Compatible Devices
When Nokia launched its HERE maps software earlier this year, it was limited to small portion of Android and Tizen-powered smartphones. Now, however, users of all Android-supported smartphones can download and use HERE maps. So if you’re looking for an alternative to Google Maps, you should give this trending new app a try.
Nokia announced the new on its blog, confirming that HERE maps is no longer limited to Galaxy users. Nokia also reported several bug fixes, including third-party apps, such as cache cleaners, that delete voice navigation data. Although these bugs are still present (at the time of writing this post), Nokia claims to be “very close” to a fix, which will likely happen in the upcoming weeks.
“Since launching HERE for Android, we’ve had some brilliant feedback from smartphone owners, critics and websites. We’re also grateful for constructive criticism, helping us to make HERE for Android even better. We’re taking your comments seriously, and are already working on changes, fixes and additions. Thanks to you, we’ve discovered that some ‘cache cleaner’ apps accidentally delete the navigation voices in the HERE app. We’re very close to a fix, which will be released in the next weeks, but in the meantime we’d ask you not to use such apps if you want to use voice-guided turn-by-turn navigation,” wrote Nokia in a blog post announcing the full release of HERE Maps
There are some recommended hardware specifications for running Nokia’s HERE maps. While it can technically run on any Android 4.1 Jelly Bean or newer device, it’s recommended that you use a smartphone with at least 1GB RAM and a screen size of 4 to 7 inches.
Unfortunately, Nokia HERE maps isn’t available on Google Play. If you wish to use the device on your Android-powered smartphone, you’ll have to download it from the Nokia’s website or side-load it from a PC.
